Acupuncture (dry needling)

Many regulated health professionals, such as osteopaths, often use acupuncture in conjunction with their specialised treatment (often referred to as ‘dry needling’ or ‘western acupuncture’). This differentiates it slightly from the acupuncture of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM).

Very fine needles are inserted and left in areas of the body to stimulate nerves in the skin and muscle. This produces far reaching effects on virtually all the systems of the body. The most well known effects are to reduce pain and to promote repair and healing.

Dry needling is usually used in combination with other treatment modalities, particularly when osteopathic joint manipulation may not be appropriate.

Glenn Sontag has received training in western acupuncture by The British Medical Acupuncture Society (BMAS).
